Safer live fire training
Live fire used in urban warfare or counter-terrorism training can pose lethal danger due to ricochets or firing through a wall, a problem addressed by the Target Group (Turkish Pavilion) in Ankara. The company has developed Tarcon, which makes use of closed cell concrete that can be moulded into almost any shape to provide a very safe bullet containment system.
Police and soldiers are increasingly exposed to the danger of sudden firefights with terrorists or urban guerillas, so they must be trained to fight in street fighting scenarios. Accordingly, many countries have built training areas that replicate an urban environment but where safety could be jeopardised if the structures can be penetrated by bullets, or cause rounds to ricochet.
Tarcon can handle high volumes of concentrated fire and will even stop shots fired at blank range.
Consequently it can be used to provide back-up walls in existing urban training sites, as well as in livefire shoot or grenade houses. But it is also environmentally friendly in that the material provides a dry, alkaline medium for holding lead bullets, while little or no hazardous copper or lead dust or vapour emission occurs when a bullet strikes.
