Further UAE Contracts

The UAE Armed Forces have announced further deals worth Dh1.4bn ($465m). Speaking at yesterday’s news conference, Major General Obaid Al Ketbi said the army had signed a Dh343m contract with local company GAMCO for the maintenance of Hawk aircraft. Another local firm, Global Medical Solutions, clinched a Dh400m order for improving the medical care system, while academic qualifications are to be lifted with contracts for the Institute of Applied Technology (Dh42m) and UAE company Matrix (Dh368m).

DynCorp of the US won an order worth Dh228m to provide technical assistance for the F-16 Fighting Falcons. Contracts to the combined value of Dh49m have also been awarded to Atlas of the UAE, Thales of France and Rohde & Schwarz of Germany.

Al Ketbi also said that the UAE was considering offers for advanced jet trainers and has shortlisted designs from Korea, Italy and the UK, while products from Italy, Brazil and Switzerland have been shortlisted for turboprop trainers.
