United Technologies company Sikorsky Aircraft and Gulf Helicopters of Qatar yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the establishment of an aviation “centre of excellence” in the Middle East region.
The MoU was signed by Sikorsky president Jeffrey Pino and the general manager of Gulf Helicopters, Mohammed Ibrahim AlMohannadi. The proposed centre would provide maintenance support, spares, training and design/development services to Sikorsky, Gulf Helicopters and other commercial and government owners and operators. Also included would be a fleet management centre. Pino said: “The Middle East has become a significant region for the S-92 and S-76 helicopters and we look forward to the opportunities this MoU creates for future co-operation.”
In addition, the two companies signed a contract for a second S-92 VVIP aircraft. Sikorsky has also delivered several S-76C++ helicopters, while the armed forces of Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia are equipped with its Black Hawk.
