Major improvements for urban operations training

Major improvements for urban operations trainingFor many years Comet has been a leader in the development of simulation and pyrotechnic devices designed to provide a high degree of realism. On Stand 613, the company is showing its latest evolution in pyrotechnic effect simulation, designed specifically for soldiers likely to be engaged in urban operations.

Consequently, whereas previously it would have been quite safe to simulate the effect of ammunition at relatively short distances that could be measured in metres, safety distances for such training must now be measured in centimetres. So following the basic rule of ‘safety first’ in live training, Comet has introduced Micro Pyro Cards with its COPAS launching device.

Micro Pyro Cards are a circuit board, about the size of a credit card, that can provide up to 11 special effects that can be initiated one by one or as a burst of fire. Specifically the effects can be flash, bang, smoke singly or as a combination of all three, to which a light and whistle special effect can be added.

What distinguishes the new pyrotechnic effect simulation from those that have gone before is that noise, flash and smoke levels are commensurate with present-day safety requirements for the short ranges involved. Thus, although demanding threat simulations can still be provided, the effects pose no danger to the eyes, ears, skin and respiratory system of trainees. The United States is purchasing COPAS along with a quantity of Micro Pyro cards.
