Jordan to receive more US trucks

Jordan to receive more US trucksArmor Holdings, Tactical Vehicles Division, is due to deliver another batch of 45 Family of Medium Tactical Vehicle (FMTV) M1085A1 5-ton long wheelbase (6x6) cargo trucks to the Royal Jordanian Army in March, to add to 45 delivered last year together with 10 M1089A1 (6x6) 5-ton wrecker vehicles.

So far the US company has built more than 35,000 FMTV series 4x4 and 6x6 vehicles for the US armed forces and some export customers, with production currently running at 35 units a day. This will increase to 50 units a day in the second half of this year.

Armor Holdings (Stand 2704) has the capacity to build additional trucks for the export market and it is understood that Saudi Arabia has more than 100 earlier FMTV vehicles that are used with the Raytheon Patriot surface-to-air missile system.

The current production model is the A1, which has numerous improvements and is powered by a Caterpillar 330hp diesel engine that meets the most recent emission requirements, coupled to a fully automatic Allison transmission.

Armor Holdings has also supplied some 2,000 Low Signature Armored Cab (LSAC) for deployed FMTV that provides the occupants with protection from small arms fire, shell splinters and some types of mine and improvised explosive devices.

As originally built, the FMTV was not supplied to the US Army with any armour protection, but as a result of operational experience in the Middle East, the LSAC was introduced as a direct replacement for the existing unprotected forward control cab.
