‘Instant’ medic centre wins order

‘Instant’ medic centre wins orderLocated at OD80 just outside the IDEX Show Daily offices, the Mobile Medical International Corporation displays its tactically Mobile, Fully Integrated Collective Protection Shelter System. It may have a long title, but the trailer-mounted system has quickly attracted orders from this region; Oman has ordered eight examples as the launch customer.

The order was placed as a result of watching a demonstration organised by the US Department of Defense (DoD), which has funded development. The Omani examples can be deployed as a medical centre and were used in this guise during a GCC exercise during January/ February this year, when one shelter was used as an operating theatre.

The shelter can function with an integrated NBC filtration system, accepting standard DoD gas and particulate filter sets using a variable speed motor-blower, computerised flow control and dust separator and pre-filter. This makes it a candidate for command and control centre roles in addition to its medical applications.

But regardless of its use, the shelter’s main claim to fame is that it can be inflated in six to eight minutes and made ready within 10! The soft wall double-skinned example on show here measures 20 x 20ft, although a bigger version can be supplied to function as a field hospital. Now undergoing DoD MIL-SPEC testing, the shelter features LED lighting fixtures that are fully integrated and designed for rugged use while meeting hospital facility guidelines

The shelter and its support trailer are air transportable, and are highly thermally efficient
