ADSB wins police boat contract
Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) has been awarded a lead contract for the supply of a new inshore patrol boat for the Abu Dhabi Marine Police. Based on a design already in service with the Canadian Police, the craft will be built in Canada by ADSB’s strategic partner Hike Metal Products. Delivery will take place later this year.
The boats are designed to meet the wide range of duties provided by the Marine Police, including the security of Abu Dhabi inshore waters, shore-based facilities, search and rescue and law enforcement.
Just over 10m in length, and built from aluminium alloy, the design is powered by twin Volvo Marine diesel engines to achieve speeds of more than 30 knots. Follow-on boats, which are required by the Marine Police to complete its fleet renewal programme, are planned to be manufactured at ADSB’s Mussafah facility.
ADSB is a public joint stock company listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Market (ADSM). It was established in 1996 by the UAE Offsets Group and has built a strong reputation for high-quality construction and repair of military and commercial vessels. Ownership is divided between the Abu Dhabi government (10 per cent), Mubadala Development Company (40 per cent) and by more than 6,000 UAE national shareholders.
