Medical units for different platforms
Thursday, 19 June, 2008
As its name suggests, the Drehtainer company is principally involved in the design and production of specialised ISO containers. Fitted out as workshops, or specially provided with ballistic and NBC protection, the company has wide experience in meeting the needs of defence users.
But experience in providing mobile hospitals and medical rescue containers has encouraged the formation of Drehtainer medical, which is exhibiting innovative solutions on stand G250b.
As many of the staff are paramedics as well as engineers, they are well equipped to understand and help solve design problems specific to certain vehicles or indeed aircraft. Visitors to the company’s stand or outside exhibit (C100), will see how the problem of access to a patient on a top bunk has been overcome by a simple electrical lift system. This will bring the casualty within easy reach of medics.
The ‘stretcher bunk’ unit displayed can be supplied as a module together with a range of other options, so that medical equipment may be loaded onto a container or vehicle as required. This flexibility has not escaped the notice of the German Army, which is to receive some MOWAG Eagle vehicles tailored for medical roles.
Furthermore, Drehtainer medical is to equip the NH90 helicopter to carry casualties and the company anticipates a request for proposal to fit out an Airbus A340 air ambulance for the German Air Force.
