Jordan’s snipers to see in the dark

Thursday, 19 June, 2008

Qioptiq’s UK-based precision optics/night vision company (Stand O075a) announced this week a substantial order from the Jordanian Armed Forces for the supply of its Sniperkite and SniperVIPIR-2 weapon sights.
Both systems are mounted in front of standard daytime sights to provide 24-hour capability. They are lightweight and have a low profile. Sniperkite is an image-intensifier based on the successful Kite series, of which more than 50,000 have been built for supply to about 50 nations. The image-intensifying system provides excellent identification capabilities in low light conditions. Based on the VIPIR-2 used by the British Army, SniperVIPIR-2 is an uncooled thermal imager running on four AA batteries. In April Qioptiq secured a large order for it from an unnamed NATO country.
