Personnel location and fuze setters from Honeywell
This week Honeywell has announced that it has been selected to supply two of its systems. EADS has chosen the company’s Dead Reckoning Module as part of the Future Soldier Programme. The miniature navigation aid continues to provide accurate personnel location data even when GPS signals become unavailable. Honeywell will also deliver 500 fuze setters to the UK.

Helmets with advanced ballistic protection MSA Gallet (Stand S035d), the French affiliate of US safety equipment manufacturer MSA, has won contracts to supply the French Police and Gendarmerie with law enforcement helmets designed to offer advanced ballistic protection. The contracts are valued between EUR2.8m and EUR11.4m and cover the production of between 10,000 and 45,000 helmets over the next four years.
Power on the go
Global Solar Energy (Stand J180n) manufactures highly efficient thin-film solar cells for glass modules and flexible products. It has applied this technology to military requirements, producing a flexible solar cell that folds up to only 11x8in. The cell can easily be spread out to provide power for comms equipment, or to recharge batteries.
Last three times longer with Power Knight
More Energy (Stand B210f) has developed a safe and cost-effective military fuel cell known as the Power Knight, which the company claims lasts three times longer than any currently available power source. This equates to 72 hours of continuous operation for kit carried by soldiers, such as radios and night vision devices.
Keep cool with Eberspächer
Thermo-management specialist Eberspächer provides heating/cooling systems for military vehicles and is now marketing a range of systems for shelters. The smallest member of the family, the type 93095, offers 1.4kW cooling capacity and 1.0kW heating, and is fully operational on the company’s stand (H240n).
Connecting future combat systems
Tyco Electronics (Stand 245b) has been selected as the lead designer for connectors suitable for new future combat systems for infantry soldiers. Tyco is launching a design that meets key requirements proposed and discussed by the connector industry and the Soldier System Standardisation Industrial Working Group.
Storage solutions certified
On Stand J140d Stanley Vidmar is celebrating the fact that its weapons storage cabinets have recently been certified by the US Army for small arms use. This certification verifies that its model 340 cabinet, together with extra-wide and double-wide variants equipped with hinged locking bars, meet the latest requirements.
