AMZ rolls out first TUR II
Thursday, 19 June, 2008
Polish company AMZ–Kutno (Stand D190) rolled out the first example of its latest-generation TUR II (4x4) light armoured multipurpose vehicle shortly before Eurosatory, where it is making its debut.
TUR II is regarded as a technology demonstrator to show potential customers its enhanced capabilities, which include greater internal volume and payload and higher levels of armour protection.
The demonstrator has seats for the commander and driver at the front, with an additional three people to the rear, with seats not being attached to the floor. On production TUR II vehicles the highest level of protection will be for the crew compartment, which will be to STANAG 4569 Level 2 with option to Level 3. Mine protection is up to STANAG Level 2A/2B. The engine compartment is protected against small arms fire, but the load area at the rear is unprotected. The company has studied a version with a fully protected crew compartment extending to the rear that would enable a total of eight people to be carried. TUR II is based on a Renault chassis and is powered by a 4.5-litre diesel engine developing 220hp coupled to an Allison 2500 automatic transmission. Gross vehicle weight is about 9.4 tonnes with a wheelbase of 3.7m.
The first example is fitted with an OBRSM Tarnow ZSMU-127C1 Kobuz weapon station armed with a QKM-Bz 12.7mm machine gun. Prior to developing TUR II, the company has built a batch of baseline TUR I vehicles, which have a wheelbase of 2.8m and a fully protected crew compartment.
The company has extensive experience in the design, development and production of light armoured vehicles, having built more than 650 Dzik (4x4) light protected vehicles for the home and export markets, with 600 sold to Iraq.
