J-BAS deflects blasts
Wednesday, 18 June, 2008
After research into existing seat technology found an off-the-shelf solution to be elusive, Jankel designed and developed its own answer, which has been proved against AEP-55 criteria.
Written by NATO to clearly define how threats detailed in STANAG 4569 Annex B should be tested, AEP-55 demands the use of devices that are fully representative of a human, in order to record the exact effects of a mine blast on a seated occupant.
A video shown on Stand N080 shows the Jankel Blast Attenuation Seat (J-BAS) being subjected to an anti-tank mine blast trial in accordance with AEP-55. As a result of the trials the system is being used in an operational role installed in the UK Jackal vehicle. Seats and footpads displayed on the stand reveal the effectiveness of the company’s blast attenuation system.
Jankel has also developed proven techniques to vent and deflect blast effects away from a vehicle body. This includes vehicles with limited ground clearance where a V-shaped hull may not be possible.
