Bozena 5 clears lethal threats
Wednesday, 18 June, 2008
The Bozena 5 midi mine clearance system that dominates the Way Industry stand (N210a) is the latest development from a company that has established leadership in this field. Way initially became involved in the technology in response to demands from the former Yugoslavia.
Way produced the Bozena 4 mini system, which has been under continuous development in Slovakia since the early 1990s. Radio-controlled from a distance of 2,000m, the Bozena 4 employs a flail system but can become a multipurpose vehicle when fitted with a dozer or other attachment.
The Bozena 5 midi mine clearance system is no less versatile and can be used with forklift, shovel, drilling, backhoe or blade attachments. However, it is in its prime role as a mine clearance vehicle that sales have been secured worldwide.
At least 150 of the 12-ton vehicle have been sold to date and many are in use in Iraq, with others supplied to Cambodia, Chile and parts of Africa. The most recent development shown here features a tiller system in place of the more generally used flail and operators may select the most suitable method depending on ground conditions.
The machine is used to clear anti-personnel mines – both pressure and tripwire fused – as well as anti-tank mines with up to 9kg of TNT.
