Thales Australia is launching its Copperhead armoured logistic support vehicle (ALSV) at Eurosatory this year as a further addition to an expanding family of Bushmaster Infantry Mobility Vehicles (IMVs).

Finmeccanica to acquire DRS Technologies
Last month, Finmeccanica (Stand E200a) and DRS Technologies (Stand J200a), two leaders of integrated defence electronic products, systems and support, announced the signing of a definite merger agreement under which Finmeccanica will acquire 100 per cent of DRS.

LEDS gathers Momentum
Saab’s Land Electronic Defence System (LEDS) already offers an impressive capability to defend combat vehicles from RPG and ATGM attack, and the family is being further extended to provide protection against ‘smart’ threats with tri-mode seekers, fire suppression, and the ability to defeat kinetic energy weapons. When fully developed, LEDS will provide full-spectrum, hemispherical protection for a wide range of vehicles.

Raytheon, Boeing set sights on JAGM
On 19 May a joint Raytheon/Boeing team submitted its proposal for the Joint air to Ground Missile (JaGM) programme, following a teaming agreement that was announced in april. Both parties have extensive missile experience and numerous advanced products in production or development, while Boeing brings special expertise in weapons integration with fixed and rotary-wing platforms.

Representing the Russian arms industry, Rosoboronexport (Stand C100) is presenting around 300 products, from helicopters and tanks to the latest generation of Kalashnikov small arms. Fourteen defence companies and agencies are directly represented.

Aselsan (Stand D220) has grown into one of Turkey’s largest defence electronics companies, offering a wide variety of products. New to the market are the Boa and Python thermal imaging sights. Both are based on the same sensor, but with different optics for different applications.

Realistic training
Simulation can be an invaluable aid but the need to use real ammunition with real weapons is recognised by Nammo, which features a range of training ammunition on Stand J070a. It claims to have been the first to introduce plastic training ammunition, now in use worldwide and today available in all calibres from 4.6mm to 40mm, permitting realistic force-on-force exercises.

GDELS presents new adaptable bridge system
The latest member of its wide range of mobile bridge systems is presented here for the first time by General Dynamics European Land Systems (Stand P030). Exhibited mounted on a Piranha III AFV, the Rapidly Emplaced Bridge system-Adaptable Bridge Launching Kit (RE B-ABLK) offers two main features – mobility and flexibility.
