FN’s dual-calibre SCAR set for export
Yesterday, Belgian arms manufacturer FN Herstal officially launched the SCAR (Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle) family on the international market. SCAR is designed around both NATO-standard rifle calibres – 5.56 x 45mm (SCAR-L) and 7.62 x 51mm (SCAR-H) – but with a high parts commonality and identical ergonomic features.

The STAMP family is designed for use with small unmanned air vehicles (SUAV s), with particular application to urban warfare, and has been in operation for nearly three years.

Sagem Défense Sécurité (SAFRAN Group) is presenting a new concept for retrofitting turrets on light and medium-sized tracked or wheeled armoured vehicles. The aim of the system is to improve the lethality and survivability of the combat platform at night and during the day.

Kongsberg and Renault forge VAB link
The Kongsberg Group and Renault Trucks Defense last month announced that they have signed a significant framework agreement for the supply of PROTE CTOR Remote Weapon Stations (RWSs) for the VAB 4x4 vehicle upgrade programme, which will run over several years. The first delivery will take place around the end of 2008.

THAAD battery stands up
In a ceremony at Fort Bliss on 28 May the US Army activated its first Lockheed Martin Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAA D) battery. Alpha Battery of the 4th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, will receive a system comprising fire control and radar units, three launchers and 24 THAAD interceptors.
