Donar unleashed on world
Being shown for the first time on the General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) stand (P030) is the recently completed Donar (or Thor) 155mm self-propelled (SP) artillery system. Donar is an autonomous system that is aimed, loaded and fired with the crew under complete armour protection. It has already completed a series of firepower and mobility trials.

As The International Land, Airland and Security Defence Exhibition and with a strong focus on technological innovations, the ninth Eurosatory opens today and runs until 20 June.
Since its launch in 1992, Eurosatory has become the leading international event for land-based defence and security, and with a few exceptions, the entire global defence industry is present at the show this week.

Panhard expands PVP family
Panhard General Defense (Outdoor Stand C220) is expanding its Petit Véhicule Protégé (PVP) family of protected light vehicles with the PVP/HD (High Density) and PVP/XL (Extra Large). These have been designed to meet emerging requirements for wheeled protected vehicles with a significant increase in volume and payload.

MTIP 2 bids for UK requirements
BAE Systems has funded the manufacture of the Manned Turret Integrated Programme 2 (MTIP 2) turret, which has already been tested installed on a British Army Warrior infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). MTIP 2 has been developed to meet the British Army Warrior Fightability Lethality Improvement Programme (WFLIP) under which the current turret, armed with an unstabilised 30mm RARDEN cannon and 7.62mm co-axial MG, will be replaced by a new drop-in turret with enhanced capabilities.

More punch for 2.75in rocket
Widely acknowledged to set the standard in its weapon class, the 70mm rocket system is derived from the venerable 2.75in rocket, which continues to evolve into greater effectiveness. Featured on the Nammo stand (J070a) is the new 70mm multipurpose penetrator (MPP), which will increase the lethality of Apache and other attack helicopters.

Iron Dome to protect Israel
Rafael has chosen Eurosatory to release its Iron Dome defence system. Iron Dome is a missile-based interception system designed primarily to counter short-range artillery rockets such as the Qassams being fired from the Gaza strip, and Hezbollah and Syrian Katyushas. It can also intercept 155mm artillery and other projectiles.

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) once lay at the heart of the Yugoslav arms industry, its factories supplying military equipment to more than 40 countries. During the 1992-95 war the country’s infrastructure was ravaged, including its military production facilities.

Barrel cleaner cuts manpower costs
Milfoam International has been awarded a contract to provide its 105-155mm barrel cleaning solution to the US Army’s Yuma Proving Ground where its patented foam technology has reduced the initial required manpower by nearly 75 per cent. However, the company also provides a complete barrel cleaning system for all kinds of firearms, including 25mm, 105mm 120mm and 155mm guns. Milfoam is displaying its products on stand O075g in the UK Pavilion, where visitors may learn of the company’s co-operation agreement with CLP Systems of Sweden, which has created an overall and complete barrel-cleaning portfolio ranging from field to arsenal requirements.

Poland opts for more Harris radios
Claimed to be the most advanced high frequency radio in the world, the Harris Falcon II RF-8500H manpack set is the subject of a USD15m contract to supply the Polish Ministry of National Defense with tactical communications equipment and accessories. Promoted on Stand H200a, the Falcon II radio features Automatic Link Establishment (3G-ALE) data rates up to 9,600bps, with advanced error-free protocols, an embedded GPS receiver, Mixed- Excitation Linear Predictive (MELP) digital voice, Citadel encryption, digital ECCM (electromagnetic counter-counter measure) techniques and a built-in Internet Protocol (IP) interface. The radio also has an extended range that provides access to low-band VHF.

Nexter ramps up VBCI production
Nexter Systems is now ramping up production of the VBCI (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d’Infanterie). In late May, the French Army took delivery, on schedule, of the first three production vehicles, which are being used for training purposes.
