FRES Scout revealed
It has been revealed that BAE Systems, Global Combat Systems, has recently completed a demonstrator based on a CV90 chassis as a contender for the Scout variant of the British Army Future Rapid Effect System - Specialist Vehicle (FRES-SV) requirement.

Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (Stand 1555) has lifted the veil on its new AN/SPY-5 phased array X-band multifunction radar, developed as a single sensor capable of providing horizon search, threat illumination and missile guidance/homing support.

First stage of FIST for Thales
Yesterday at the show, Quentin Davies, UK Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, announced the award of a £150 million prime contract to Thales UK, covering the delivery and in-service support of equipment for Increment 1a of the Future Integrated Soldier Technology (FIST) programme.

AIS debuts miniature guidance
Atlantic Inertial Systems is launching its latest miniature silicon inertial measurement unit here at DSEi on stand 2233. MinIM packs a six-degrees-offreedom IMU into a unit that measures only 28mm in diameter and 28mm in height. The ‘one-inch’ IMU offers a new level of miniaturisation, allowing customers to widen the applications of precision guidance.

TÜV Product Service (Stand 892), an acknowledged expert in product testing and certification and part of the TÜV SÜD group, will be launching the UK’s first SC21 test service at this year’s DSEi, having trialled the new programme with a key player in the aerospace and defence industry.

IDE in a ball grid array
US specialist in high reliability microelectronic products and services, Trident Space & Defence (Stand 1310 in the US Pavilion), is debuting its IDE Solid-State Drive in a Ball Grid Array (BGA) package that can be directly reflow-soldered onto a PC board with other components. With densities up to 32GB and a footprint of only 29x29mm, it is said to be the ideal solution for embedded systems and other devices where space is at a premium. In contrast to rotating media, the BGADrive achieves extremely fast data access times and reduced overall data latency. The company is also exhibiting its ruggedised solid-state drive line.

Family of converters
US-based Vicor (Stand 2650) is demonstrating its latest defence and aerospace products, including the wide-input 28V Micro quarter brick DC-DC converters with input voltages from 9-36V. This family offers up to 100W of output power with a choice of output voltages from 3.3V to 48V and can be used in a variety of applications including 12V or 24V MIL-COTS battery systems for vehicles and manportable applications. Vicor will also introduce a new Mini half brick DCDC converter. Vicor is partnering its distributor, UR, on Stand 260.
