Thales wins Oman naval contract

Thursday, 13 September, 2007

Thales Nederland has signed a deal with VT Shipbuilding International for the supply of sensors, combat management systems and communications to be installed aboard three Project Khareef ocean patrol vessels (OPVs) on order for the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).

VT secured the Khareef contract, valued at GBP400 million, in early 2007 following an international competition. The company is scheduled to deliver the first OPV to the RNO in mid-2010.

Thales Nederland, as principal contractor for combat system equipment, will deliver a range of equipment to the programme, including the SMART-S Mk2 surveillance radar, the STING EO fire control system, the Vigile 400 electronic support measures system, the TACTICOS combat management system and the Integrated Communication System. The first shipset will be delivered to VT Shipbuilding in 2008.
