CTA invests in MTIP2
Thursday, 13 September, 2007
CTA International (a joint venture company between BAE Systems Land Systems and Nexter Systems of France) is now developing, as a private venture, its latest Manned Turret Integration Programme 2 (MTIP2).
This is one of the contenders for the British Army’s Warrior Lethality Improvement Programme (WLIP), which aims to improve the firepower of the vehicle until its projected out-ofservice date of 2035. MTIP2 is the largest private investment by BAE Systems Land Systems and builds on the earlier UK-funded MTIP that successfully completed its British Army manned crew clearance trials integrated on a Warrior chassis earlier this year. MTIP2 was fired for the first time this week and by early next year, will have been fully integrated and be ready to start company trials. Development of the 40mm Case Telescoped Weapon System (CTWS) and all natures of ammunition (pictured), with the exception of the General Purpose Round — Air Bursting Munition (GPR-ABM), has been completed. Extensive trials with the GPR-ABM are now well underway, and performance is already exceeding expectations. According to CTA, development of the GPR-ABM will be complete by the end of this year. The French Army will complete testing of its remote-controlled turret armed with a 40mm CTWS later this year, and CTA International is now harmonising its turret solutions with French and UK requirements. In addition to WLIP, the scout version of the Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) is also a contender for a turret armed with a 40mm CTWS.
