New solutions for shift of conflicts

The shift of conflicts from battlefields to urban environments has obliged the development of solutions appropriate to these very different scenarios. ICx Technologies is a company that is producing advanced solutions for both homeland and military security and visitors to Stand 933 can learn of two interesting developments.

The company’s Cerberus mobile integrated tactical surveillance platform combines radar detection and thermal and CCD imaging in a networked system. This acts as a ‘virtual fence’ for perimeter or border security in which the sensors are networked via an easy-to-use operating system, which provides both command and control capabilities from a centralised command centre.

Fido is a quite different ICx product for which the company has already received several US military contracts. Developed by the company’s Explosive Detection business unit, Fido is a portable, ultra-sensitive detector that utilises amplifying fluorescence polymers (AFP) to detect trace levels of explosive materials. Weighing only 1.3kg, Fido can be supplied as either handheld or robotmounted systems.
