MACS targets MPPV

West Midlands based MacNeillie (Stand 902) has confirmed to the DSEi Show Daily that its recently developed Military Armoured Carrier System (MACS) is a contender for the British Army requirement for a Medium Protected Patrol Vehicle (MPPV).

The company has teamed with QinetiQ to bid for MPPV. MacNeillie is also said to be involved in discussions about the vehicle’s potential suitability for other applications in a number of world markets.

The first example of the MACS started company trials earlier this year but is not being shown at DSEi. Initial trials have exceeded original expectations, especially in the areas of mobility and performance, according to the company. MACS uses proven Mercedes-Benz S5000 (4x4) Unimog cross-country vehicle subsystems, which have been integrated into a new all-welded armoured steel hull designed and manufactured by MacNeillie. This provides protection against small arms fire and shell splinters, but various types of appliqué armour packages are available to provide a higher level of protection.

The vehicle can be fitted out to meet specific requirements, including use as a troop carrier, internal security vehicle, command post and carrying explosive ordnance disposal teams. MACS is being marketed with gross vehicle weights of 9.5 through to 14 tonnes, with configuration and armour package depending on users’ requirements. Baseline vehicle is fully airtransportable in a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. It is expected that a second example of the MACS will be built for further development work.
