Ballistic seating saves lives
The Exmoor Trim company is launching its Ballista-Tek armoured seating and is demonstrating two versions on Stand 2020. One version utilises armoured steel plate developed by Hobson Industries and includes spall protection from fragment and blast. The other version features moulded Dyneema sections incorporated within the seat frame, and this too offers protection against blast and fragments, while the seatbacks will defeat small arms fire.

Bushmaster orders built up
Bushmaster orders built upOrders for the Thales Australia Bushmaster infantry mobility vehicle have now reached almost 700 units, and production is expected to run through to at least 2010. The Australian Army has already deployed the Bushmaster to Afghanistan, East Timor and Iraq. The only export contract to date has been placed by the Royal Netherlands Army, which has taken delivery of 26 Bushmaster vehicles to meet an Urgent Operational Requirement for Afghanistan.

Videoconferencing in an instant
An instant videoconference system that can provide armed forces with mission-critical command and control between deployed units and headquarters is being demonstrated during the show. Visitors to the Speakerbus Stand 1571 and EADS Paradigm on Stand 1177, will be able to use the pushto- video (PTV) system to communicate between the stands via a wireless link or hook up with one of the Speakerbus worldwide offices.

AWS wins Racal contract
AWS Electronics (Stand 1764) has signed a contract worth GBP1m to supply Racal Acoustics with over-moulded cable assemblies for use in the latest-generation headsets used by armed forces worldwide to enable communications in noisy environments across the full range of military vehicles. AWS Electronics is part of AWS Group, one of the UK’s leading specialist electronic manufacturing services providers, which delivers services for the complete electronic product lifecycle from design through manufacture, to contract service and repair.
