Update initiative for M60A3

CLS Jordan, as part of an initiative by the King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB), has designed a completely new vehicle control and electrical system for the M60A3 MBT. This is displayed in model form on Stand 1621 and visitors are invited to assess first-hand the ease of operation and the man-machine interface.

The overall system includes a new driver’s instrument panel, a steering wheel, a pushbutton electronic control of gear selection, a power Update initiative for M60A3 distribution box, a rotary base junction, a turret control box and commander and gunner switch panels, in addition to new electrical harnesses comprising heat shrink sleeving and bayonet twist-lock connectors.

The new system has resulted in the redundancy of 15 individual items of equipment and a 50 per cent reduction in wiring harnesses. Based on solid-state electronics, the new system includes complete circuit protection and provides improvements in both operation and maintainability of the vehicle. Long-term sustainability is guaranteed for both the automotive systems and the significant investment that forms part of the KADDB upgraded turret, which includes a 120mm gun, electric gun drives, a panoramic sight and a new fire control system.CLS has a proven design and systems engineering record associated with the upgrade of other fighting vehicles such as Challenger 1 and CVR(T), among many others worldwide.
