Eurocopter bids for British SAR contract
The 1:10 mock-up of the EC225 featured on the Eurocopter Stand 1177 represents the latest member of the Super Puma family, many of which are in operation in more than 20 countries for SAR missions. Fully proven in the harshest maritime environments, the EC225 is the civil certified version of the EC725 launched initially in response to a French Air Force requirement for a helicopter specifically designed for Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) missions.10 September, 2007
Airbus A400M wing delivery is important milestone
Last month Airbus celebrated the delivery of the completed wing sections for the first ‘flying’ A400M military transporter (MSN001) to Seville in Spain. Delivery of the wings heralded the start of final assembly towards the aircraft’s maiden flight next year.10 September, 2007

Chemviron Carbon, the European subsidiary of the Calgon Carbon Corporation, has been awarded a contract by Paul Boyé Technologies for Zorflex Defence Cloth to be used in the manufacture of suits, gloves and socks to protect against chemical warfare agents for a major European country. Paul Boyé Technologies is a French company noted for the development and supply of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear suits.

Diode lasers take flight
Flying may be safer than driving a car, but statistics show that more fatalities occur during take-off than during any other period of flight. Previously undiscovered technical failures and problems on the runway may arise, and if the aircraft takes off too quickly the tail may hit the runway and the plane will crash before it has even left the ground.10 September, 2007
Osprey lands on HMS Illustrious
The Royal Navy’s high-readiness maritime strike carrier HMS Illustrious has become the first non-US vessel to embark the US Marine Corps’ (USMC) revolutionary Bell/Boeing MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor. The embarkation in July was a precursor to a major US-led Joint Task Force Exercise on the eastern seaboard of the US, during which 14 USMC AV8B Harrier jets also landed on HMS Illustrious.10 September, 2007

ITT’s Space Systems Division (Stand 385) has teamed with CenTauri Solutions to develop and demonstrate a high performance, scalable surveillance system with many potential applications with defence, law enforcement and other governmental security agencies. A key component in the system is ITT’s 66-megapixel camera, which has an integrated processing facility.

Sweden’s stealth ship makes its entrance
The Swedish Visby class corvette HSwMS Nyköping (K34) arrived at the Royal Docks Lock in the early hours of Monday morning flanked by two German minesweepers atthe end of its journey to ExCeL. Nyköping is the fourth of the five Visby class vessels, all of which have been built by Kockums (part of ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems group).10 September, 2007
