Terrorist threats to UK assets

Terrorist threats to UK assets
Thursday 6 November
Holiday Inn London, Regent's Park

Recent attempted attacks and foiled plots have clearly demonstrated the UK remains a target for Al-Qaeda and like-minded jihadists.

An assessment of the terrorist threat to the UK, however, is complicated by divisions among Al-Qaeda inspired groups and individuals: Jihadists may be united by the belief that Islam is engaged in a war with its enemies, but they are often divided by ideology and tactics.

Other evolving implications for domestic security include the relationship between home-grown radicals and the Al-Qaeda leadership. Consequently, the presence of jihadist 'safe havens' in the Pakistani tribal areas has become a key issue for domestic security as well as for UK forces deployed in Afghanistan.

Attend this half-day briefing assessing the current jihadist threat facing the UK and its armed forces deployed abroad and listen to Jane's expert insight on -

  • How a perceived challenge to Al-Qaeda's ideology has been overstated
  • What recent UK terrorism cases have revealed about the relationship between 'home-grown' extremists and Al-Qaeda's leaders
  • The significance of the Internet as a recruitment, radicalisation and training tool
  • Lessons to be learnt from the Iraq insurgency in understanding the terrorist threats in Pakistan and Afghanistan
