Matthew is the editor of Jane's Defence Budgets (JDB) and the Jane's Spokesperson on Defence Expenditure and Budgets. He writes articles and expert commentary for Jane's Defence Weekly and Jane's Defence Industry News as well as the wider defence community through work with the UK Defence Forum and RUSI. Matthew also presents Jane's analysis to the international media and has been interviewed by Sky News, ABC (Australia), CNBC and the BBC.

Prior to his current role Matthew led the editorial development of, and provided military aerospace market forecasts for, Jane's Defence Forecasts - Military Aircraft Programmes. Before joining Jane's, Matthew worked in the civil service in London and as a parliamentary research officer in the Scottish Parliament.

Matthew holds an MA (Hons) in Political Studies from the University of Aberdeen and Masters of Research in War Studies from Kings College, London.

Alex Pape is resident analyst for Jane's Defence Forecasts - Military Vessel Programmes and provides clients of this specialised intelligence-centre with up-to-date global coverage of naval vessel (and submarine) procurement and upgrade programmes currently ongoing or planned across this market sector. In addition, he provides forward looking analysis, identifying future programmes and likely solutions, as well as market trends and drivers.

Alex Pape has previously gained relevant experience when he joined Jane's Defence Forecasts aerospace team. Alex Pape holds a Masters Degree in International Conflict Studies from King's College London's school of War Studies where he undertook specialised studies into in Civil-Military relations and the proliferation of weapons.

Craig Caffrey is an analyst with Jane's Defence Forecasts- Military Aircraft Programmes which provides information on current and future global military aircraft procurement and upgrades. He also writes for Jane's Defence Weekly, Jane's International Defence Review and Jane's Defence Industry on related issues. Craig has an undergraduate degree in Politics and Economic and Social History from Leicester University and a Masters in Intelligence and International Security from Kings College London.



Michael Formosa

Michael Formosa manages the consulting practice for Jane's Strategic Advisory Services covering the Europe, Middle East and Asia regions. Starting with Jane's in 2005, his primary responsibility is to deliver strategic recommendations to government interior, foreign and defence ministries as well as multinational defence firms and financial institutions. Michael's office provides corporate clients bespoke market forecasting, price modelling, competitive intelligence and pre-transactional due diligence strategic assistance. For government clients his teams provide OSINT support, economic and geopolitical analysis and military future scenario planning.

Prior to joining Jane's, Michael led a US-based sector team within a British Government-funded trade consulting practice. As an Honorary Vice Consul (Commercial) from 1999 to 2005, he established relationships with representatives of the US and UK banking communities, New York and London stock exchanges, the New York Federal Reserve, and regional political contacts to advance UK commercial interests in several sectors including aerospace and defence. His team delivered market analysis and strategic recommendations to UK government officials such as the Minister of State for Trade and Investment, the Confederation of British Industries, various Parliamentary committees, local government departments and HM Treasury.

From the late 1980s, Michael worked in enterprises focusing on the international distribution of dual-use technologies for rotary-wing aircraft and consumables for jet engine manufacturing. Covering emerging Asian markets including India and China, he managed hundreds of transactions involving international supply chains, distribution and licensing agreements with dozens of trading partners, financial institutions and government departments.

Michael received an MSc in international affairs (2005) from the New School for Social Research in New York specialising in economic development. His dissertation is entitled From Foreign Aid to Foreign Direct Investment: Market Reform in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

Christian Le Mire is currently the editor of Jane's Intelligence Review. He began his career at Jane's in 2004 as Asia editor, following employment at the International Institute of Strategic Studies and Business Monitor International. Christian graduated from the University of Oxford and King's College, London with degree in philosophy and politics and war studies. He specialises in Asian security and the rise of China.

James Green is responsible for Jane’s Security and Armed Forces content. In this role, he manages those editorial teams that publish on country risk issues such as terrorism, organised crime, political and social stability and armed forces capabilities. James started his career at Jane’s after graduating in War Studies from Kings College, London. Before rejoining the company in 2004, James was responsible for editorial content at the UK-based think-tank, the International Institute for Strategic Studies and previously was a journalist for The Daily Telegraph



Paul Rayson

Paul Rayson joined Jane's in 2006 initially heading up the Global Consultancy division and having Market Development Responsibility for North America for Jane's Products and services. In September Paul was promoted to Global Product sales Director taking on a wider responsibility for all Jane's product sales activity through a combination of Direct sales resources, Sales Agents and other channels.

Before joining Jane's Paul has held a number of senior commercial roles over 20 year career which has including a number of management board positions. Paul joined Jane's from Airclaims, a commercial aviation information and consultancy company, where he was the Managing Director of Information and Consultancy.

Editor, Jane's Armour and Artillery


Christopher F Foss is the Editor of Jane's Armour and Artillery and Co-Editor of Jane's Armour and Artillery Upgrades, Jane's Land-Based Air Defence and Jane's Military Vehicles and Logistics; he is also the Land Consultant for Jane's Defence Weekly and Jane's International Defence Review.

Christopher began his association with Jane's as early as 1970, when he began writing for Jane's Weapon Systems. Since 1979 he has acted as a self-employed contractor with the company and with a number of other organisations and companies throughout the world. His achievements have included conceiving and editing Jane's Defence Review, the first magazine ever produced by Jane's Information Group, and proposing and launching Jane's Missiles and Rockets.

He has written numerous books relating to armoured vehicles and weapons systems both for Jane's and for other publishers. He has also lectured in a number of countries and has chaired many conferences.
