By Nathan Hodge The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) announced on 15 March the successful test of a 30,000 lb (13,600 kg) conventional bomb, which is designed to destroy hardened underground facilities. The 14 March test was a static demonstration, which involved detonating the weapon inside a test tunnel. Data is still being collected from the test, but the DTRA described the demonstration as a "significant step" toward the development of the new weapon, which would be designed for delivery by a B-2 or B-52 strategic bomber aircraft.
