IDEX 2007: US considers accelerating JLTV purchase

The US armed forces may consider accelerating the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) programme, which aims to develop a more survivable utility vehicle for the US Army and US Marine Corps.
"We plan to release an RfP [request for proposals] and get proposals from industry and figure out where we're going to go with that vehicle, which we plan to put in the field starting in the 2011-12 timeframe," Claude Bolton, the assistant secretary of the army for acquisition, logistics and technology, told an audience at the IDEX exhibition in Abu Dhabi. "We may accelerate that but right now that's the plan.”
He added: "We're sticking with 2012 right now because that allows us to make it a programme of record, do things right, mature the technologies, but if the warrior says he wants something like that faster, we can do it faster."
