UK receives first upgraded FV432s

BAE Systems Land Systems has completed the upgrade of the first of 500 British Army FV432 series tracked armoured vehicles on time, less than nine months after being awarded a contract worth GBP85 million (USD147 million).

The FV432 upgrade project is the first new programme between BAE Systems Land Systems and the Army Base Repair Organisation since the signing of the Strategic Partnering Agreement between the two parties last year.

The FV432 series is now expected to remain in service until at least 2020.

Although replaced in British Army service in its standard armoured personnel carrier (APC) version by the Warrior infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), almost 1,500 FV432s remain in the fleet, including those held in reserve. The type is used for a wide range of roles, including as an ambulance, command post, a carrier for specialised communications equipment and as an 81 mm mortar carrier.
