US Army puts high-speed test vessel 'in the fight'

By Scott R Gourley

In a significant alteration of original test plans, the US Army has committed the wave-piercing catamaran test platform Joint Venture (HSV-X1) to participate in unidentified military support operations in the US Central Command area of responsibility.

HSV-X1 is being leased from Bollinger/Incat USA as part of a multiservice demonstration and evaluation programme under the US Army's Tank-automotive and Armaments Command.

According to Col Genaro Dellarocco, US Army Project Manager for Force Projection, the army took administrative control from US Navy testers in the middle of March. "This a vessel that will literally transform the way we fight," said Col Dellarocco.
