BvS 10

Based on its experience in the design, development and production of the unarmoured Bv 206 and armoured Bv 206 S articulated all-terrain vehicles, Hägglunds Vehicle AB, now part of the Alvis Group, has developed the BvS 10 armoured personnel carrier.

The first prototype was completed in 1998 and in 2000 the UK Royal Marines selected the vehicle to meet its requirement for an all-terrain vehicle (protected). An order was placed for a total of 108 vehicles.

Compared to the earlier Bv 206 S, the new BvS 10 has an increased payload, greater internal volume, higher level of protection, higher speed and greater operational range.

The BvS 10 consists of two units, front and rear. The former contains the power pack, commander, driver and two crew, while the rear unit carries 10 people. The maximum payload depends on level of protection, but it is between 3.1 and 4.1 tonnes.

A wide range of optional equipment is available including different levels of passive armour protection, an NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) protection system, winch, air-conditioning system and more powerful engine.
