Colombian Air Force (FAC) Super Tucano EMB-314 light-attack turboprop aircraft are being fitted to operate laser-guided bombs, according to prime contractor Embraer.
The deal for 25 aircraft was signed on 7 December 2005 and between three and five aircraft are expected to be delivered before the end of 2006.
The FAC aircraft will be fitted with a FLIR Systems BRITE Star multi-sensor laser designator/ rangefinder or a similar Star SAFIRE III system, a key difference between the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and FAC aircraft.
The Super Tucanos for the FAC, which already operates EMB-312 training/armed light aircraft, will also have a longer range than those used by the FAB and a different self-protection system.
