The Netherlands confirms it is to become a JSF partner

By Joris Janssen Lok, JDW Special Correspondent, The Hague

The Netherlands is to join the US-led Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme as a Level 2 partner, with a cabinet-level government decision expected as JDW went to press on 25 January, according to sources in The Hague.

Expected to be ratified by the Dutch Parliament by March, the decision means that the country will pay $800 million towards the Lockheed Martin-led system development and demonstration phase of the F-35 JSF programme.

If confirmed, the announcement means that the Royal Netherlands Air Force’s 138 Mid-Life Update F-16s will almost certainly be replaced by around 100 F-35s.
