BRIEFS - LHA Replacement design, INTERNATIONAL DEFENCE DIGEST


US Naval Sea Systems Command is awarding Northrop Grumman Ship Systems a Fiscal Year 2003 (FY03) contract for functional design of the LHA(R) amphibious assault ship, with options for additional efforts in FY04-06. The company will develop and refine ship requirements, focusing on maneuvering, seakeeping and motion analysis; general compartment arrangements; propulsion/ machinery/warfare/mission systems; navigation; protection; signature control; and reducing the cost of ownership.
