The Spanish armed forces have placed a new order with Thales for Fulmar light unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the company’s Spanish subsidiary said on 8 June.
The army will receive its first Fulmar reconnaissance UAV and the marines a further system.
The marines received the first Spanish Fulmar X at the end of 2017, after it was tested as part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) Rapaz programme to promote domestically built UAVs.
Thales claims the Fulmar is particularly suitable for a naval role with its capability to take off from and land on a moving ship.
The first army version, which is due to be delivered in the next few weeks, will incorporate a new dual electro-optics and infrared payload.
