Israel’s Gaia Automotive Industries revealed details of its new Amir family of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles at this month’s Eurosatory exhibition.
Constructed using a monocoque hull on a independent suspension provided by Axletech, the Amir accommodate up to 12 personnel and comes in 4x4 and 6x6 variants, with the former’s gross vehicle weight (GVW) being 14 tonnes and the latter’s 17 tonnes when protected to STANAG Level 3. With this level of protection, the 4x4 has a payload of 3 tonnes while the 6x6 has a payload of up to 4 tonnes. The latter has already been demonstrated with an Elbit 30 mm cannon-armed remotely operated turret, but Gaia is also talking to Rafael about doing the same with one of its systems.
