Australia’s state-owned naval shipbuilder ASC has entered an agreement with US consultancy company Accenture to support its implementation of advanced manufacturing techniques, ASC announced on 25 May.
ASC said the agreement is part of its “digital transformation programme” through which it will “identify and roll out new technology and innovation” across its defence programmes. ASC added that its move into digital manufacturing is likely to have flow-on effects for its suppliers.
ASC’s engagement with Accenture falls under the first phase of this transformation programme, said ASC, and could include a range of possible activities to improve ASC’s productivity. These include the increased use of seamless digital technology, the integration of big data analytics, the application of Internet of Things technologies, and the implementation of user interfaces such as virtual and augmented reality.
