Islamic State militants kill at least 26 pro-government fighters in Syria's Homs

ACCORDING to the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, at least 26 pro-government fighters - including 17 Iranian and other foreign nationals - were killed when Islamic State militants attacked a military outpost near the city of Palmyra in Syria's Homs governorate on 22 May, Reuters reported. Reports added that the militants used suicide bombers and armoured vehicles in a dawn attack near a dam close to the city. Casualty figures provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights cannot be independently verified but have been assessed to be the most reliable.
