Pentagon denies cutbacks in exercise with South Korea

18 May 2018

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is denying media reports that it is cutting back its joint annual ‘Max Thunder’ exercise with South Korea in response to North Korean cancellations of talks with its southern neighbour over concerns about the drills.

North Korean officials had also raised concerns over the drills as a possible impediment to the scheduled June summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un.
