South Korea’s Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on 23 April that it will open a tender in May for the procurement of additional shipborne helicopters with anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities for the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN) under its Maritime Operational Helicopter programme.
The preferred bidder is to be selected following a comprehensive assessment of operational capabilities and costs, said DAPA without providing further details.
Citing DAPA sources, South Korean news agency Yonhap had reported that the government in Seoul plans to allocate KRW900 billion (USD836 million) to acquire 12 additional helicopters to support the RoKN's expanding fleet of vessels under the Future Frigate Experimental (FFX) programme.
