China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) paraded 48 naval vessels, 76 aircraft, and 10,000 personnel in a fleet review before President Xi Jinping in the South China Sea on 12 April.
The event, according to the Chinese Ministry of National Defence (MND), was the largest review ever staged by the PLAN and served to showcase the “new-look People’s Navy”.
The MND also referred to the importance of the speech at the review made by Xi, during which he stated that “building a powerful people’s navy has never been as urgent as it is today in the struggle for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”.
