US Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) awarded USD696.2 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract modification on 12 March for additional long-lead time material associated with the fiscal year (FY) 2019 and FY 2020 Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) 802 and 803, and 804 and 805 respectively.
The contract modification provides long-lead time material for steam and electric plant components; the main propulsion unit work and ship-service turbine generator work; and miscellaneous hull, mechanical and electrical system components to support SSNs 802, 803, 804 and 805 ship construction, commencing in FY 2019.
The US Navy’s (USN’s) FY 2019 budget request includes about USD7.2 billion, or two Block V Virginia-class submarines and related advance procurement and economic order quantity funds, which are part of the FY 2019-2023 multiyear procurement (MYP) plan.
