Guatemala interested in Colombian patrol vessels

06 March 2018

Guatemala is interested in procuring patrol vessels developed and produced by Colombia’s state-run COTECMAR shipyard, President Jimmy Morales disclosed during a State visit to Bogota on 23 February.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said: “There is an interest from Guatemala in procuring a range of equipment, mainly patrol ships that COTECMAR produces, and we are going to see how we triangulate this purchase through the United States, which is also interested in seeing Guatemala strengthening and improving its capabilities in the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.”

A COTECMAR executive told Jane’s on 5 March that Guatemala had expressed interest in the Coastal Patrol Vessel (CPV), the Amphibious Landing Vessel (BDA), and the Apostle Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB).
