India and Vietnam have agreed to deepen defence trade ties through New Delhi’s provision of military aid to the Southeast Asian country.
In a joint statement issued on 4 March during Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang’s visit to India, the two governments also highlighted expanding opportunities for defence industrial collaboration based on Indian military sales to Vietnam.
This is being facilitated by two separate agreements in recent years through which India will provide Vietnam with a total of USD600 million in state credit with which to procure Indian-made defence equipment as well as related technologies to strengthen Vietnam’s defence industry.
