The US Air Force (USAF) wants to free up additional time for more effective pilot training as the service enters an era of great power competition against China and Russia.
USAF Secretary Heather Wilson said on 1 March that training that does not make pilots say “wow, I ratcheted up my game today”, is not enough. Wilson said, on average, USAF pilots are averaging 17.6 flight hours per month.
