Security forces kill 37 suspected Wilayat Gharb Afriqiyya militants and free 1,130 hostages on Nigeria-Cameroon border

IN A STATEMENT released on 27 February, a military spokesperson, Colonel Onyema Nwackukwu, reported that 37 suspected Wilayat Gharb Afriqiyya militants had been killed, and 1,130 civilian hostages had been released during joint counter-terrorism operations conducted by Nigerian and Cameroonian military forces in the border villages of Kusha-Kucha, Surdwala, Alkanerik, Magdewerne, Mayen, Miyanti, and Wudila on 26 February, Al Jazeera reported. The statement added that an unspecified number of militant camps and four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been destroyed, and weapons - including anti-aircraft guns - had been captured during the operations.
