The Army Reserve General Joaquim Silva e Luna will become Brazil’s interim minister of defence, replacing Raul Jungmann.
Gen Silva e Luna is the first military officer to assume the post since the organisation was created in June 1999. He has been the General Secretary of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) since October 2015.
It is understood that Silva e Luna will not face any difficulties with military affairs as he has been in several other defence posts, including commander of army’s 16th Jungle Infantry Brigade; army chief of staff; chief of cabinet to army commander; and secretary of personnel, education, health, and sport at the MoD.
