- A USAF officer said software patches will fix the AC-130J’s 30 mm gun “retriggering”
- The gun is one of the most important parts of the gunship
A key US Air Force (USAF) officer vowed that software patches will fix excessive triggering on the Lockheed Martin AC-130J gunship’s 30 mm gun.
The Pentagon’s January Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) report said the AC-130J’s Gun Weapon System (GWS) displayed performance inconsistencies. One of these is that the 30 mm GWS experiences excessive “retriggers” in full rate of fire that reduce the utility of the firing mode, and which are not observed on the AC-130W Stinger II.
