The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is planning to establish an additional base on the country’s peninsular to facilitate its operations in the region.
The service, which is also known officially as the Malaysia Coast Guard, currently operates out of two bases on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. These bases are located at Mersing in the state of Johor, and Kemaman, in the state of Pahang.
An additional base in Pahang is now required to improve operations along Malaysia’s eastern coast, and in waters off parts of Johor, said Shahidan Kassim, a minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, in comments made to local media representatives on 17 February.
