The Estonian Defence Investments Centre on 31 January announced the four bidders to be considered for a major upcoming small arms contract, the Baltic News Service has reported.
Heckler & Koch, Sig Sauer, Lewis Machine & Tool Company, and Patriot Ordnance Factory are to be considered for last June's tender for 11,000 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm automatic weapons and accessories.
Purchase and delivery will take place in 2018–21, with further potential purchases of up to 18,000 units through 2024. The estimated cost is EUR75 million (USD92 million).
The new weapons will go to the 1st and 2nd Infantry Brigades, the Ministry of Justice, and Police and Border Guard Board.
